the Technology Association of Georgia Business Intelligence & Analytics society presented awards to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for Large Enterprise Category, and Columbus State University for Mid Size Category. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta used Analytics to Improve Healthcare in Babies- In hospital intensive care units, vast amounts of monitoring data is collected in the moment only to vanish once it leaves the screen. Using business intelligence and big data technologies, Children’s created a model that enabled them to store and analyze continuous lifesaving vital sign sensor data. The ultimate goal is to understand the impact of stressful procedures and in turn reduce pain and improve outcomes in our most fragile patients.

Columbus State University developed a tool to help student retention and success. President Obama enacted “Complete College America” this year which changes the way public universities are funded. This new “performance based model” means colleges are now accountable to assure students stay in school, progress and graduate. Columbus state developed a tool that measures retention, progression and graduation rates, and delivers information to consolers to assist struggling students. Additionally, they have created a predictive model with automated alerts so that counselors can intervene and be targeted with high-risk students before they begin to struggle.

“This year we had a dozen nominations representing a broad base of innovative companies in Georgia. Many of these organizations are combining internal and external data to predict potential outcomes and shift their strategy to drive new sources of revenue. The face of BI is continuously changing” says Greg Boyd, TAG BI/A Society Co-Chair.

The Judges for the 2014 Awards:

Dr. Jennifer Priestley – Kennesaw State University

Noni Gonzalez – AT&T

Jamie Walker – Elavon

Flavio Villanustre – HPCC Systems (formerly Lexis-Nexis)

“We were fortunate to have strong representation from Business and IT Executives on the panel of judges this year, this is a clear indication of the strategic importance of BI in companies” according to Eric Falthzik, TAG BI/A Co-Chair.

The 2014 Innovation Awards are were made possible by Tibco Spotfire, PwC, Cloudera, Halo Business Intelligence, Software AG, Peak 10, QlikView, and Visionare Partners.
